| It's a work of science fiction, but I believe that empaths do exist. I believe this because I believe that I possess the ability to sense another individual's emotions. It's not an "always on" condition. There are points in time where I meet certain people by happenstance (it's a word, a portmanteau, but a word none-the-less). These people are often clouded by personal judgement, a deep feeling welling up inside. It's typically cloudy, but the power it exudes is quite astonishing. I guess, if not by the unknown power of empaths, but by the emotional distress of an individual. Maybe it's someone's helplessness that you can feel emphatic for, if so, one should be able to see this kind of energy everywhere. I still believe that I can feel it, sharply. My latest encounter is tonight. It started as a simple request from a guest. A simple call to the cab company. When he first called, he seemed to demand the cab. Ok, will do. I called him back to let him know that Yellow Cab has been notified. He seemed fine with it and thanked me. Sometime past and I was on the phone making a reservation when that gentleman appeared in my lobby with a little girl. He started talking, to me I guess. I was interrupted and was unable to complete the reservation correctly. When I finished, I looked over to his direction, he began to speak as if frustrated, "where are they?", he inquired. Well, I told him, they are located in Colorado Springs and we are in Monument, at least 20 minutes away. That was not the answer he was looking for. He became rather belligerent. He went off on how there's half a million people in Springs (I guess he must be thinking that this one cab should have at least one car per 2 citizens) and that it's been over an hour. When he came up to the desk, I took a good look into his eyes. Yes, he was clearly annoyed. He had clearly been drinking too. The conversations went on for another minute before he asked me to call the cab company for a third time. This time around, I offered him the phone. He made it clear to the company that he needed a cab, in five minutes, no less! At this point, I was annoyed. He left enjoy the remainder of his waiting time in his room. Sometime later, the gent and the little girl is back at the desk. This time, his face was a little more sullen. After calling Yellow Cab again, I can confirm that they would be here in a matter of ten minutes. During this time, he questions me, "do you know what it's like to be a single father?" At this point, I pulled out the wallet and showed him a picture of Arianna. He couldn't believe it. Neither could I, underlying tone of his statement seemed to indicate that he was the father of this 5 year old. Or, at least, the custodian of this child. I guess, the point of this story, at one point tonight, I could genuinely feel for this guy. Something happened, he has this child and has some reason to be drinking. What gives? Humanity is a lost cause and I can truly feel it with each person I meet. I guess I'll be able to find out in the morning. Good Night~ |
